Uma Dawa: Indonesia's Paradise Awaits (Luxury Resort & Spa)

Uma Dawa: Indonesia's Paradise Awaits – Or is it? A Messy, Honest Review.

Okay, buckle up buttercups, because I'm about to spill the tea on Uma Dawa. Forget sterile hotel reviews; this is the real deal. We're diving deep into this "Luxury Resort & Spa" and I'm not holding back. Prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions, from sheer bliss to… well, let's just say not everything's sunshine and rainbows.

(Disclaimer: No, I wasn't paid to write this. I paid to stay there. My opinion is my own, and your experience may vary. But hey, that's life, right?)

First Impressions & Accessibility: The Good, The Bad, and the "Wait, Where Am I?"

Getting to Uma Dawa was a bit of an adventure, my friends. Accessibility, they say? Well, depends on what you're after. The airport transfer was smooth (thank heavens!), a definite plus. They had a car park [free of charge] and with valet parking as well, so no problem!

Now, the resort itself claims to be accessible. There’s an elevator, which is a godsend for anyone with mobility issues. Facilities for disabled guests are mentioned, so that's hopeful. But I didn't see any ramps that i could find anywhere. I would definitely suggest contacting ahead if this is a major concern. Otherwise, you are going to need to ask for help. That's it!

Rooms: Cozy or Claustrophobic? You Decide.

The rooms themselves? Ah, the rooms. Air conditioning? Check. Free Wi-Fi? Double-check (and thank God, because I'm addicted to the internet). My room, and i selected a Non-smoking one (duh!), had a private bathroom with a bathtub AND a separate shower/bathtub. Score! The bathrobes were plush, the slippers were comfy, and the free bottled water was a lifesaver after that long flight.

The mini bar was tempting, the refrigerator was convenient, and the coffee/tea maker was essential. Good job!

There was even an Interconnecting room(s) available option.

The bed was comfy, the linens were fresh, and the blackout curtains helped me combat the jet lag.

But (and there's always a "but," isn't there?), the carpet felt a little dated. Also. Some of the decorations felt a bit… well, maybe a bit too much. I spent the first five minutes just staring at a painting and wondering if it was supposed to be ironic. Also I didn't know how to turn down the volume on the phone in the bathroom!

Internet: A Lifesaver (Mostly).

Free Wi-Fi in all rooms? YES! Internet access – wireless? YES! I even tried Internet access – LAN, but honestly, why bother when the Wi-Fi was so good? Internet services in the lobby were a plus as well. However, i didn't want to always have to run down to the lobby.

Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: Food Glorious Food (Mostly)

A Breakfast [buffet]? Sign me up! And it was actually pretty good, with a mix of Asian and Western choices. A Coffee shop on site to provide the fuel you need, and Restaurants had International cuisine in restaurant and Asian cuisine in restaurant and Western cuisine in restaurant. The desserts in restaurant were tempting, but i just passed.

There were Poolside bar with a happy hour, which was great for sunset cocktails. I particularly loved the Bottle of water always available.

The Pool: Divine! (With a View!)

The Swimming pool [outdoor] was the highlight. Seriously, the pool with a view? Breathtaking. That was the kind of swimming pool that makes you forget all your troubles. I spent hours just floating there, staring at the scenery. Pure bliss.

Spa Time: Rub-a-dub-dub and Relaxation.

Ooh, the spa! The spa/sauna was great. They had a sauna, a steamroom, and all sorts of treatments. I treated myself to a massage, and it was the best massage of my life. I mean, honestly, my shoulders haven’t felt this relaxed in years. Pure heaven! I was tempted to try the Body scrub and Body wrap, but I'm more of a "lie-on-the-sunbed-doing-nothing" kind of gal.

I'm now considering getting a foot bath just so i can feel the bliss again.

Things to Do (or Not Do): A Mix of Fun

There was a Fitness center for those feeling energetic (not me, but kudos to you!), and a bunch of other activities. There was a Kids facilities, which was great for families. They had Babysitting service as well.

Cleanliness and Safety: Keeping it Clean (Hopefully!)

Okay, this is where things get serious. They had Anti-viral cleaning products, and seemed to be doing the best they could. There was also Hand sanitizer all over the place (thank goodness). The Staff trained in safety protocol, but I don't have any real way of verifying this. Daily disinfection in common areas, and I saw staff cleaning constantly.

Service and Conveniences: Hit or Miss?

The 24-hour front desk was super helpful. The Concierge was great for booking tours and making restaurant recommendations. Luggage storage handled all my stuff like a champ. However, i couldn't find a Convenience store around. Daily housekeeping kept the place spotless, but it took a while for them to find my room.

For the Kids: Yay for Family Time!

Family/child friendly? Absolutely! They had a Kids meal and Kids facilities, and just seemed geared towards families, which is great.

Getting Around: Easy Peasy (Mostly)

Airport transfer was included, which was fantastic, and they have a Taxi service as well, so transportation was easy. Getting around the resort was manageable. Unfortunately, I was unable to see Car power charging station.

The Imperfections. Because Let's Keep it Real.

No place is perfect, and Uma Dawa is no exception.

  • The Price: It ain't cheap. This is a luxury resort, so expect to pay luxury prices.
  • The Small Annoyances: There were times when the service was a little slow.
  • The Noise: The occasional noise from nearby construction during the day was a bit irritating.
  • The "Almost Perfect" Scenario: It's almost perfect. It could be amazing, and with a few tweaks, they could get there.
  • The "Missing Pieces": While on site, there were several things missing.

The Verdict: Would I Go Back?

Honestly? Yes, I probably would. Despite the small imperfections, the good outweighs the bad. The pool, the spa, the food, the overall atmosphere - it's all pretty darn amazing.

Final Score: 4 out of 5 Stars.

Uma Dawa Resort and Spa Indonesia

Alright, buckle up buttercups, because this isn't your sanitized, perfectly-organized travel blog. This is me trying to navigate the supposed paradise of Uma Dawa Resort and Spa in Indonesia. Wish me luck, I’m gonna need it.

Uma Dawa: My Brain's Guide to Bali (Maybe)

(Warning: May Contain Excessive Daydreaming, Tropical Heat-Induced Delusions, and the Occasional Existential Crisis. Proceed with Caution.)

Day 1: Arrival - The Great Unpacking Debacle & That Dreaded Mosquito.

  • Morning (Or What Passes for it after 20 Hours of Travel): Landed in Denpasar. Smelly, delightful Bali air hits me like a warm, humid slap in the face. Immediately regretting the three layers of clothes I thought I'd need ("Just in case!" – famous last words). The airport? Chaotic, beautiful chaos. Found our pre-booked transfer. He had that Balinese smile that could charm a cobra. I'm already half in love with this place.
  • Mid-Morning (aka The Arrival at Uma Dawa): First impressions? Lush. Seriously lush. Towering palms, frangipani scenting the air, and a pool that just begs for a dive. Checked in. The room? Gorgeous, but… where do I put everything? Unpacking is my nemesis, the Everest of travel tasks. I swear I’m going to live out of my suitcase for the next ten days.
  • Afternoon: The Pool, the Sun, and the Mosquito (of Doom). Spent a blissful hour by the pool, feeling the sunshine melt away the travel stress. Until it arrived. That buzz. That infernal, high-pitched buzz. The mosquito. We waged war. I lost. (I'm pretty sure I have a bite the size of a small country). Victory, Mosquito! For now.
  • Evening: Dinner and a Vague Sense of Jet Lag: Dinner at the resort restaurant. The food? Divine. The view? Stunning. The jet lag? Relentless, like a persistent, shadowy stalker. Tried to stay awake long enough to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail and a chat with my travel buddy, but I just ended up staring blankly into the middle distance. I hope I don’t snore too loudly.

Day 2: Yoga, Temples, and the Deep, Dark Secret of My Terrible Balance

  • Morning: Yoga That Was More "Yikes" Than "Zen": Decided to embrace the "wellness" aspect and attend a morning yoga class. Picture this: me, attempting a downward dog on a slightly uneven patch of grass, while a very graceful Balinese instructor floats around effortlessly. Let's just say my flexibility is, well, "emerging." Also, I'm pretty sure I almost face-planted during the tree pose. Twice. (I’m not graceful, okay? I'm a klutz. Always have been, probably always will be.)
  • Mid-Morning: Temples and the Sweet Relief of Air Conditioning (Maybe): We hopped into a car to visit a local temple. The architecture was incredible, the colours vibrant. The crowds were, well, crowded. After a while I was starting to overheat, and my brain began to melt out of my ears. Thank goodness for the delicious mango juice I’d managed to snag!
  • Afternoon: The Spa (and My Spiritual Awakening That Never Happened): Ah, the spa. This was supposed to be my moment. A massage, a facial… pure, unadulterated bliss. The masseuse was incredible, the oils smelled heavenly, and I did, for a brief, glorious moment, achieve a state of near-sleep nirvana. Then I started thinking about all the emails I haven’t returned. The list of chores. The state of my sock drawer. And the nirvana evaporated. My brain is apparently incapable of turning off.
  • Evening: Dinner and the Quest for the Perfect Smoothie: Dinner at a local warung, this time. Saw a tiny, absolutely adorable gecko darting across the wall. (I may have squealed, a little.) The food? Mostly delicious, but I am on a quest for the perfect smoothie. The search continues!

Day 3: Diving into the Deep End (and Maybe My Overthinking Brain) and Doubling Down on the Under Water Adventure!

  • Morning: The day of diving. Diving! I was nervous but excited. I've always loved the ocean, ever since I was a kid and spent hours splashing in the lake. The instructors were patient and kind, and the equipment seemed high-tech. (I’d watched a ton of dive videos on YouTube, preparing myself.) Slipped in the water and went to the bottom and I saw the world, but I don't even remember seeing it at all, except in fragments.
  • Mid-Morning: I think I saw a sea turtle (or maybe it was a rock) or something, but I was mostly focused on breathing. I was also really, really focused on not panicking. The pressure in my ears started to hurt, and my mask kept fogging up. It's not as easy as it looks in the documentaries. I'm starting to think I am not as adventurous as I thought.
  • Afternoon: Back in the water. This time maybe a shark showed up. I think the pressure has gotten to me. I need a different way of seeing this place. I need to be somewhere better. Somewhere more serene. The air is so rich here, the beauty so bright, but I am drowning in my own mind.
  • Evening: I will never be at peace if I fail to see that world out there.

Day 4: Rice Fields, Monkeys, and the Great Laundry Disaster

  • Morning: Explored the rice fields. Utterly breathtaking. The scale of the landscape. Breathtaking doesn't nearly cover it. They were beautiful but also hard to navigate. I was struggling to keep up with my camera.
  • Mid-Morning: Monkey Forest! The monkeys were adorable, but also… cheeky. One tried to steal my water bottle (I won). My friend, however, wasn’t so lucky. (He lost.) The monkeys were everywhere, all the time. They're very smart though.
  • Afternoon: The Great Laundry Disaster. I sent my clothes to be washed and… well, let's just say they came back smelling inexplicably of potpourri. And most of them were also now a size smaller. Guess I'm buying new clothes!
  • Evening: Dinner at a restaurant by the beach. Watched the sunset. It was beautiful. I started crying (in a good way). Realized how much I love this place.

Day 5-10: (A Quickening of the Pace, More Imperfections, and The Reality of Paradise)

  • Day 5: Surfing lesson! Failed miserably. Swallowed a lot of seawater. But laughed a lot too.
  • Day 6: More temples, more markets, more questionable food choices. My stomach is an adventure zone.
  • Day 7: Beach day. Bliss. Until the sand got everywhere.
  • Day 8: Cooking class. Learned how to make delicious Indonesian food. Probably won’t remember the recipes when I get home.
  • Day 9: Hikked up a volcano.
  • Day 10: Sadness. Departure day. Bali, you were amazing. I will miss you. Especially the sunsets, the food, and the chaos. And the mosquito… maybe not the mosquito.

Overall Impression:

Uma Dawa? Beautiful, luxurious, and chaotic. Like life. Like me. I wouldn't trade it for the world. (Except maybe a week on a deserted island with unlimited WiFi and zero mosquitoes.)

Final Thought: Bali is not perfect. It's hot, humid, buggy, and can be a logistical nightmare. But it's also stunningly beautiful, full of kind people, and an experience that will stay with me. I might even come back… someday. After I've mentally prepared myself for the unpacking. Maybe.
